Maxime Prévot
Mayor of Namur and Honorary President of the CIALN

For several decades, IMEP has acquired a solid reputation, as demonstrated by the careers of some of its students in all disciplines. At the initiative of its Director, Mr. Guido Jardon, this renowned institution has wished to take a further step in its tireless commitment to supporting artists in their first steps on the professional stage, by giving them the opportunity to be heard/reheard by the public and professionals in the sector.

Thanks to IMEP and its undeniable international reputation, Namur now has the opportunity to host, for its very first edition, the first Lyric Art Competition of Namur, which will provide a unique and enriching experience for promising young singers from all backgrounds.

Moreover, the City of Namur is very proud to support such an event, which undoubtedly will contribute to the integration into the professional environment and the promotion of new talents in the field of lyric art.

Therefore, we look forward to seeing you this winter 2024 to discover the quintessence of lyric singing, with the highlight being the long-awaited gala concert which will take place in the heart of our elegant Namur Concert Hall.

Looking forward to meeting you there, Maxime Prévot, Mayor in charge of Culture

Guido Jardon
President of the CIALN and General director of IMEP

The first edition of the International Competition of Lyric Art of Namur (CIALN) truly promotes confirmed young lyrical talents and acts as a springboard for their professional careers. The choice of the jury members speaks volumes, as we welcome both professionals from the lyrical world and recognized music agents. The undeniable success of this first CIALN, both in terms of the number of candidates from all corners of the world and the quality of their artistic backgrounds, only reinforces the importance of this project.

The IMEP, the only higher education institution of the Arts in the Namur academic cluster, is positioned in this context as an essential actor and partner. Singing has held a prominent place in the school since its creation until today, as evidenced by its young soloists performing on the world's most prestigious stages.

Beyond these brilliant careers, we are increasingly aware of the importance of vocal practice for everyone, which continually challenges us. We believe that the visibility of these highly publicized international competitions can encourage everyone, regardless of generation, to engage in this practice by highlighting the importance of the voice: finding one's voice, choosing one's path, listening and sharing with respect.

This social role is particularly essential for our children and should, in my opinion, be widely developed in schools.

It is no coincidence that we chose Namur to give birth to this competition. Not only does our Walloon capital undeniably carry singing and choral singing in its DNA as a genuine identity marker, but its Mayor, Mr. Maxime Prévot, Honorary President of this competition, has also decided, much to our delight and that of the younger generations, to place culture at the heart of his concerns. A deliberate approach that we wholeheartedly applaud!

It is an entire city and region that will live to the rhythm of CIALN for a week, as the young artists will be hosted by Namur families. We thank them for their support!

The organization of this international competition would not have been possible without the assistance of the City of Namur, the non-profit organization NEW - Namur Europe Wallonie, the Rotary Namur Confluent, the Friends of IMEP, as well as all the actors and sponsors you will discover, all of whom are essential supporters of our initiative.

I wish you a wonderful and already exciting competition!
